Hello everyone, I’m Rae.
How did I get to be a wannabe editor, freelancer in training, and total fangirl?
It all started with a challenge…
You see myy grandmother was tired of my attitude after I graduated eight grade. I was pretty angst. So she challenged a sulking thirteen year old me to read one book a day the summer before I started high school. I tried to cheat by reading tiny dime novels only to end up having a good time. I really, really, disliked reading and then one day I didn’t anymore.
Stories to me are a way of escape and expression. Writing is an outlet to get the jumble of my thoughts onto paper. My voice and writing is still being developed but I know that is all part of the process. Will I write the next American novel? Maybe. Will I write a bestseller? Again maybe. The fun comes from exploring and not giving up. Imagine if I had? I don’t know where I would be. And I owe it all to my grandmother. Oh and by the way – I did complete the challenge.
Now from my first blog post, entitled The Beginning, I gave some brief background information on what I’m doing right now in my life. That’s changed and here’s the update.
I’m now a college graduate with a major in English with a concentration in Creative Writing. I continue to suffer from big looming life decisions, mid-mid twenties crisis, and this whole mystery of adulting. That is the basics of my life right now. But I’m continuing to explore the world of blogging and book publishing, and even freelancing now.
I’m still a fangirl at heart. Meaning I get way too attached to certain characters and my list of imaginary fictional boyfriends is quite long. Some of my favorite authors are Sarah J. Maas, Susanna Kearsley, Deborah Harkness, and the list goes on. I read a lot and can’t pinpoint my favorite book of all time. I can say personal favorites are Acheron by Sherrilyn Kenyon and The Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness. I prefer fiction, and a variety of genres (romance, fantasy, etc) over poetry and non-fiction but try to read a little of each to keep my interests broad and defined. I’m also in the genre transition period from YA to Adult… Just kidding! I still read a ton of YA. Oops!
As for current favorite series – Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas, The Discovery of Witches series by Deborah Harkness, and The Nick Chronicles by Sherrilyn Kenyon. Again I could go on and on about books and make suggestions (like The Maze Runner by James Dashner, The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, or Percy Jackson & The Olympians by Rick Riordan) but I’ll let my reviews speak for themselves throughout the course of this blog’s (hopefully long) lifespan.
I think that about covers the basics with updates mixed in. I could go into more but I need to have a little mystery in my life.
Thanks for reading!
